This may be the most brilliant thing I’ve ever read on the Internet.
Over at the website for the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded this year to Mohammed El-Baradei and the IAEA, you can “play the peace doves game,” disarming the world of nuclear weapons with the help of eight virtual peace doves. Hilarious.
that I hate that people write comments directly on blog posts. Trackback and email are better ways of conveying feedback, because there’s some semblence of order and even moderation to the conversation. With comments, it’s just snarking back-and-forth. I notice this most acutely at CP.org, where some very annoying people post very unproductive comments. I’ve decided to simply stop reading them there.
I’m all ears for disagreement and dissent; I just don’t think comments on blogs are a very good way of expressing that. Emailing the author, or writing a post on another blog and tracking-back is better because you have to think a little more about what you write, and both the commentator and the author can exercise more control over the conversation. Most comments just shoot from the hip without much thought and reflection. I also think people tend to be slightly more respectful in the way they express themselves when they write emails.
That’s tonight’s rant, in the tradition of infamous “front-of-the-book” section of the Princeton Tory.
Update: You can post comments now if you register. That way we can ban spammers. Doesn’t, of course, mean that I’ll read them.
Because it could get you killed. And it’s not just planes. Trains too.
An important proposal. I’ve been a staunch advocate for a while.
