Surprise, surprise…

By Joanna Friedman on December 31st, 2005

Once again, the news does not look good for Tom DeLay. Isn’t DeLay ashamed to have mischaracterized the “US Family Network”, an organization he had close ties to in the 1990s, as a grassroots movement when, in reality, it was largely funded by corporations? Isn’t it embarrassing that the organization, which avowed to serve as a public advocacy group, spent next to no money on public advocacy related projects? Yet, another frustrating discovery about “The Hammer’s” fundraising activities. Maybe it’s time to hammer in the last nail to the coffin that holds Tom DeLay’s political career.

Why Both Nancy Pelosi AND the Republicans Are Wrong

By Asheesh Siddique on June 23rd, 2005

On Tuesday, Pelosi held a press conference to call for an investigation of detainee abuse. That’s great. But she also said that the war in Afghanistan is over. Republicans criticized her for “demoralizing” the troops.

Neither side is right. There is a very real war going on in Afghanistan. But there shouldn’t be, and it’s the Bush administration’s fault that there still is. Had the Republicans not diverted us into the quagmire in Iraq, we could have focused on rebuilding Afghanistan. So the Republicans don’t have much credibility here.

Jim Sensenbrenner Disgraces America

By Asheesh Siddique on June 10th, 2005

Sometimes there are extraordinary circumstances under which some people need to be personally ripped to shreds (hell, others have done it).

What Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner did today during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on reforming the USA Patriot Act merits the following statement from me: you besmirch the House of Representatives and disgrace America with your presence there, Jim. You should resign.

In a House Judiciary Committee hearing today on the Patriot Act, Democrats started asking some tough questions about how the erosion of civil liberties and basic rights by that legislation relates to Bush administration-sponsored torture policies. Sensenbrenner didn’t like this. So instead of debating with his colleagues, this coward, after being snippy and rude the whole time, shut down the committee and walked out. You can watch this video of Sensenbrenner’s illegal, anti-American behavior. When he last got his lobotomy, they must have mistakingly replaced his brain with that of a pig.

I can’t tell you how infuriated I am this evening. From Tom DeLay to Comrade Stalinbrenner, the House has been transformed into a tyranny of the majority party. Democracy, run for cover.

Update, June 11, 8:01 PM: More.
